That is the question.
We will NEVER please everyone. That, in and of itself, needs to be understood.
The squeaky wheel ALWAYS get the most attention. If I posted everytime I got a compliment on the open mic (emails everyweek, handshakes, thank yous) than I would be posting compliments everyday.
So remember that there is a number of peeps that are grateful, love us and still think that Tribe Open MIc is cool. I have seen new faces there every week.
Also, We can ALWAYS be better and grow with new ideas. So lets embrace new ideas (not a handful of complaints) and shift things up a bit.
Lets also remember that WE ARE ON THE SAME TEAM.
okay team.......any postive ideas on things to improve (solution based comments only....if you don't want to volunteer your time and give us some constructive ideas than what's the point of makin a rukus?)
;)

Re: To complain or to grow?
Mon, July 4, 2005 - 10:25 PMGood post, Zig Zag. Now we are getting somewhere.
OK, hopefully positive suggestions.
1. Let's reach out for some good guest artists. I am willing to
explore that one.
2. Pace: I would really like to see the next person stage left, in a chair, ready to go. If poetry, notebook open, ready to go.
Musicians, instrument out of case, tuned, ready to go.
I would like to see the MC announce the next 3 people, so people will be prepared. THis is especially important when we don't call people up in the order they signed up. I have seen a rather surprised look on some peoples faces when their name was announced not knowing they were next.
Organization: Chairs and couches set up by 9:50PM. Whoever is working the front door, arrive at 9:45 PM. Pre-show music so loud
people can't talk. Keep it mellow.
Also, I assume you and Lucaso are our leaders. And that is great.
You both do a wonderful job. It would be nice if we knew who is doing what for each show. That way we can create norms of what that particular position entails.
Start on time. At each show it is important the MC give Micah a
"money plug" for donations and give Micah the opportunity to
announce events at Tribe Theatre.
I think it is OK for the MC to cut off repeat offenders. I am thinking of people like Mr. Bongo who can play forever. It is OK to cut him off. Also people like that, let them know before the show if they run over they will be cut off.
I would like to see creative ways to involve the audience, singing, dancing, whatever that makes them feel a part of the show.
I would love to see WERD do some group gigs again. The night we did that, the audience went wild over it. Maybe we could work on that when we start again in September.
I will volunteer for arriving early and setting up the room the nights I attend. I will also volunteer to find some hot guest artists.
Zig Zag, my apologies if my rant caused you any unpleasant feelings. I take equal responsibility for slacking off. But I did feel the enthusiasm and organization had slipped a bit.
There is something magnetic about a passion for excellence and theatrical basic principles will make it better.
Also, are there better ways to market the evening that would bring in new people? I have talked to a lot of people that would come if it were not so late. That is one of our big challenges.
I deeply respect and love ya all,
Jim

Re: To complain or to grow?
Tue, July 5, 2005 - 1:16 PMJim, I think it's wonderful what you are putting out there.
My deal is this: I am focused on my personal writing and coaching this summer and that is all I have time for. So in terms of organizing the OPen Mic I can only over my week to week schedule and see who is available. I don't have time, energy, drive or desire to do anything other than the minimal for this venue at this time. I will send out invites, and pass out flyers and talk to those I meet abotu attending, but other than that I need to pass the torch to anyone that want to see CHANGE.
I can also speak for Lucaso that he is busy this summer as well, and although he loves hosting, he does not want to be the sole host. I'm going to post a sign up sheet for hosting, and other duties and whoever signs up will be responsible for set-up and tear down.
As for the "stand by " chair, I don't like the idea, but if others like it (and want it) than they should implement it. If you want to host an evening and try to get that idea of the ground and see how it works out, I'd be up for that.
I agree that whoever is on for hosting should arrive early and help with set up.
I'm just an organizer - althoug I don't mind being leader from time to time.
As for WERD, the summer is a hard time to get it together, but I agree that we should get things rolling again. I have the next WERD meeting / BBQ schedule for July 19th...at 6:30 - 9:30. I'm hoping to find a BBQ by then...;)
